Research Products Corporation, manufacturer of the AprilAire Steam Humidifier, has determined that a specific type of electrode wire with a “D” shaped connector may loosen causing arcing and/or overheating at the interface of the connector and canister, posing a fire hazard. The affected AprilAire Steam Humidifiers were produced from June 2010 – January 2015. Research Products Corporation voluntarily notified and is working with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and Health Canada on this issue. No other AprilAire products are affected.
The affected units can be identified by owners reviewing the electrode connector wires.
To eliminate the possible fire hazard, Research Products Corporation engineers developed an electrode wire with an “O” shaped connector which has been used in Steam Humidifiers manufactured after January 2015. A Research Products Steam Humidifier Safety Recall Repair Kit containing two electrode wires with “O” shaped connectors and a Replacement Steam Canister will ship directly to owners of the affected units when they go to rpcrecall.com/steamhumidifier to request a repair kit. We are recommending to homeowners they contact a professional heating and cooling contractor to schedule a service call to install the repair kit at no charge to the homeowner.
To help us reach homeowners as quickly as possible, we are asking for your help in notifying all homeowners you sold the AprilAire 800 Series Steam Humidifier to through January 2015.

Send a provided Customer Recall Notice spaced two weeks apart to customers who purchased the AprilAire Steam Humidifier through January 2015

Immediately post a Website Recall Notice on the website URL from which AprilAire Steam Humidifiers produced from 2010-2015 were sold, and on any website URLs from which you sell AprilAire Steam Humidifiers, Replacement Steam Canisters, and Electrode Wires (Models: 800, 865, 80, 80LC, 4978, 5768, 70000028).
Also, within 30 days, send an email to RPCRecallReseller@researchproducts.com confirming in writing the Customer Recall Notice provided was sent to customers who purchased the AprilAire Steam Humidifier on your website through January 2015.
